Alternation Weaving
Alternation Weaving allows its users to, well, alter the properties and structures of existing objects. It's a transformative form of Weaving and just as Creation, it's highly regarded for its utility.
As mentioned in the main article, Alternation Weaving is characterised by r ed through to violet threads. They can vary in hue, lightness, and saturation but don't overextend to yellows or blues.
The mana cost for Alternation Weaving varies according to the nature and complexity of the alternation. Simple changes are quite inexpensive, while more significant modifications can be substantially draining.
Manifestation
Alternation Weaving starts with a formation of a single (red to violet) thread between the Weaver's hands.
That thread serves as a medium for the alternation; a conduit, as you may.
The moment the thread makes contact with that object, the user's Weaving begins to take form based on the physical properties of the object. After that, the Weaver can manipulate it by adjusting the thread's configuration.
There are two main types of Alternations:
- Physical Changes.
- These are things like the size, shape, and texture of objects. For example, they can stretch and shrink things, reshape them completely or modify materials to enhance their grip or appearance.
- Chemical Changes.
- Changing the chemical properties of the materials is, generally, much more taxing on the Weaver than even the most advanced physical changes;
- It encompasses things like elemental transmutation, molecular manipulation or phase changes.
- There are certain risks pinned specifically to these kind of changes, as in that manipulating chemistry can lead to unintended side effects (you can, but should you? type of thing.)
- Some chemically altered substances might be unstable so knowledge of what's safe to mix and what's... explosive, is recommended for Alternation Weavers.
Each alteration must be completed in one continuous effort. Once the Weaver is satisfied with the manipulation of the thread, they must finalise the Weaving to solidify the changes in reality. If the weaving is interrupted, the intended changes fail, and the object reverts to its original state.
If a Weaver miscalculates or mishandles the process, the alteration may result in unintended consequences, leading to a failed change. This can waste mana and potentially damage the object being altered
