The Fall of The First Light
Theories and Uncertainty: How Did the First Light Fall?
The Forsakening is the single greatest mystery in cosmic history. Though Lucifer and The Matron are real historical figures, the cause of the Forsakening has been lost to time, buried beneath layers of secrecy, fractured records, and divine propaganda.
Among the many theories, four dominate the discourse:
- The Luciferian Betrayal – The prevailing belief among celestial loyalists is that Lucifer himself was responsible. They claim that his ambition drove him to tamper with the Weave, seeking to elevate himself beyond his station. Some texts even suggest he tried to steal the power of the First Light itself and failed, leading to the unraveling of reality. As punishment, he was cast into Limbo, stripped of his former glory, doomed to witness the slow death of the cosmos he once guided.
- The Fall of the Heavens – Those who defy the celestial narrative believe the heavens themselves are to blame. Some hold that Raphael, Michael, and Gabriel, the Three Archons of Dominion, sought to control the Weave for themselves, and in their arrogance, shattered its balance. Others believe the gods, fearing the rising power of mortals and the influence of the Weave, deliberately cut themselves off from the First Light, bringing about their own downfall.
- The Cosmic Cycle Theory – Scholars of the Arcane Citadel argue that no one was to blame at all. They suggest that the First Light, like all forces in the universe, was bound to a greater cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. The Forsakening, in this view, was inevitable—a slow decline that simply reached its breaking point. If true, this means no one caused the Forsakening, and no one could have stopped it.
- The Unseen Hand – The most radical theory, whispered in the depths of Limbo and among the ruins of lost worlds, is that something else was responsible—something ancient, something beyond even the gods. The Leviathans, the Old Ones, the Hunger Beyond the Veil… there are many names for whatever lurks in the dark places of existence. Some believe that the Forsakening was an act of sabotage, an assassination of the First Light by a force that still waits in the shadows.
No single theory holds complete dominance. What is clear, however, is that the Forsakening was not a singular event, but a cascading unraveling—one that is still ongoing.
The Fracturing of the Cosmic Order
Whatever the cause, the Forsakening shattered the fundamental structure of existence.
- The Weave collapsed, leaving magic unstable and unpredictable.
- The Leylines fractured, causing arcane storms, dead magic voids, and corrupted nexuses.
- The 32 Cosmic Pathways broke apart, cutting off entire realms.
- The gods lost their unity, their celestial hierarchy fragmented and war-torn.
- Oblivion surged forward, devouring lost realms where the First Light’s presence had once kept it at bay.
The Celestial Stair, once the radiant bridge to the heavens, collapsed into nothingness.
The Infernal Road, once a prison for the damned, became a lawless abyss.
The Veil Between Worlds, once a stable barrier, grew thin, allowing horrors to slip through.
Across the multiverse, the very laws of reality waver. Some lands suffer from wild magic where spells surge unpredictably, while others have become magic-dead zones, where no sorcery can take hold at all. The fabric of existence is wearing thin, and no one—not gods, not mortals, not scholars of the Arcane Citadel—knows how to stop it.
The Last Hope: A Path Forward
And yet, among the chaos, there remains a glimmer of hope.
Within the shattered Weave, remnants of its former power persist—the Twigs of Fate. These scattered fragments, hidden across the multiverse, contain the last echoes of the Weave’s original harmony.
Some believe they are the key to restoring magic and balance. Others fear they are dangerous remnants of a past best left buried.
And then there is The Matron, the exile, the last keeper of the Weave.
Her disappearance after the Forsakening has left many questions unanswered. Some claim she willingly fled to the Elemental Planes, sealing herself away from the disaster. Others suggest she was hunted down by celestial forces, her power seen as a threat. A few even believe she is still watching, waiting, searching for those who might help her mend what was broken.
If she yet endures, she may hold the key to restoring what was lost. But those who seek her must tread carefully—for the forces that shattered the Weave will not allow the old order to return without a fight.
The path forward is uncertain.
But one thing is known:
The Forsakening was not the end. It was merely the beginning of something far worse.
