Clan Dogiel

Clan Dogiel was a Ledzian clan or rody of Doric descent active in the Hearthlands.

Structure

Clan Dogiel had two magnates, one for the coastal folwark and a second for the hinterlands. When their territory industrialized significantly in the 39th century, the Dogiel granted numerous free charters to towns and guilds under their rule.

Assets

The Dogiel folwark consisted of much of the Hearthlands north of Roztyn and the areas of Kreplachia around Bocian Bay. After seizing their Kreplachian territories during the fall of House Labed in the Zivan Schism, the Dogiel hoped to develop it into a port to rival Pieklo to the north; this never materialized due to the great expense, and the extent of pollution in Bocian Bay even at that time.    The Dogiel seat at Thorn was only a few hours from Roztyn, where they spent much of their time.

History

Clan Dogiel was ennobled as a reward for Doric warriors who had defected to the Ledzian side during Uzh's Rebellion. Like their comrades, Clan Buchek, they were given a fief far from the border with Dormanchau for their own safety as well as to make contact between the Elfs and their former motherland difficult. In the 3600s, Clan Dogiel's fief was undeveloped wilderness, but the influx of Doric immigrants and the granting of land to shieldbearer families quickly transformed the landscape. By the time of the Schism in 3677, the Dogiel folwark and much of southwestern Ledzia had become heavily urbanized, owing to high demand for its rich soil and safe access to the sea and all the economic boons that came with it.   During the Zivan Schism, Clan Dogiel fought a brief three-way clan feud with Clan Olbrychinski and the Sokolian House Labedz for control of the Labedz folwark. The Dogiel were victorious, though the territory gained was ultimately of little value.   Through the 3800s, the Dogiel competed heavily for control of the Patriarchy, feuding most directly with Clan Wytold. The Dogiel provided three successive Patriarchs, from 3827 to 3882, and their rule, characterized by rapproachement with Dormanchau, religious heresy and rampant brigandage, was seen as century-defining, and reified reactionary and parochial impulses in Ledzian society.

Disbandment

In the 3890s, the Dogiel-Wytold struggle for power culminated in a clan feud on an international scale, that played out heavily in the urban quarters of the Hearthlands. In 3898, the Dogiel capitulated and fled to Sokol. Their folwark was divided amongst the Zuraw, the Helbowicz, and the newly ennobled Bohusz, one of Clan Dogiel's shieldbearing families.
