The sandwich war

The sandwich war, despite never breaking out into a war, is still infamous across the falling city. The conflict arose from the most insignificant of sources, as the name suggests, a sandwich. Or more specifically two sandwiches, being delivered to the wrong councilmembers during a meeting. Most people can agree that this is just an innocent mistake and in fact, the act of simply swapping the sandwiches back around is very simple. Unless one of the councilmembers already took a bite out of one of them. And the other refuses to give his back until he gets a new one, and this breaks out into an argument about so much more than sandwiches. The meeting turned into a shouting match, and soon what could've been as simple as changing the position of two plates turned into trying to prevent a war between two of the most influential powers in the city. The meeting ended early, and the councilmembers and their allies went home to prepare for what might be the first war in the city's history, something which will have huge and lasting consequences for everyone, involved or not. Thankfully, not everyone on the council was swept away by the talk of war and called in the peacekeepers. The military force representing the city held the threats of violence under control until a meeting could be arranged. Long discussions over several days, and more than one threat exchanged by the different sides, finally managed to result in a peaceful agreement. Quickly dubbed The sandwich war by the people, it soon became a metaphor for how one small thing could get exaggerated and escalate a conflict to a ridiculous degree. Nobody wants to start a sandwich war when a peaceful solution benefits everyone involved so much more. The councilmembers involved in starting the sandwich war got quickly replaced the next election cycle, and relations between the two powers have been repaired since.
