The ring of memories

The ring of memories was one of 3 famous treasures kept in the southern palace. The ring was very unassuming, a simple blue gem on a gold ring with small decorative carvings of leaves. What made it famous was its alleged ability to store the memories of whoever wore it, letting the next person relive those memories like they were their own. Exactly who had worn the ring and thus stored their memories varied from telling to telling, but almost all included Sancasus the third, a famed warrior king. The ring has never been worn in recent memory, as it is said those who wear it get so lost in the other memories that they soon lose sight of themselves, slowly growing mad. This was seen as the reason Laurus the fifth slowly drifted into madness and dragged the kingdom with him. This has later been debunked as the ring was in fact never worn by the king, but despite the evidence, it's still generally accepted as true. The ring, along with the two other treasures were lost when the palace, which was one of the first parts of the world to do so, fell into the abyss. The warning signs of a collapse had not yet been studied, and with only minutes to get out people perhaps understandably prioritized their lives over bringing the famous treasures. Some have expressed a hope that the treasures are still somewhere in the abyss, but no one has ever come back from there to confirm that theory. If it were true however, and if it was possible to bring the treasures back to the city, and the ring indeed has the ability to record memories, historians have theorized on the many possibilities to study what life was like before the collapse as so many records are lost.
