The Fallen Suns

10,000 years ago, a pale blue dot sent its first ships out across the stars. We stretched out our arms to embrace the stars, looking for wealth, fame, power, and others who shared our universe. Our first steps were uncertain, faltering, and slow, but only for a time. Within 500 years, humanity had discovered space folding, allowing rapid expansion and colonization of the galaxy. By the time the 1,000th anniversary of humanity's departure from earth, there were over 1,000,000 colonies across the galaxy. Humans had ended large scale warfare, alliances were made, then unification pacts, and finally, a mere 1,500 years after leaving Earth, the Confederation of Suns was formed.   The Confederation continued to expand. At its height, it encompassed three galaxies and was home to over 1017 people. It achieved unimaginable heights in nearly everything people set their minds to. For over 8,000 years, the Confederation was a testimony to the courage, tenacity, creativity, power, and community of humanity. But nothing lasts forever.   Nearly 1000 years ago, something happened. The details were lost in time, but what is known is that in the space of a single year, the entire Confederation of Suns collapsed. Communication with most of the Confederation was lost, and all travel between systems ceased--except for a few. Out of the millions of systems that were part of the Confederation, now only ten remain. These ten systems make up the last remnants of that once great empire. They are the last fragments of humanity. They are the final testament to the tenacity of that once great empire. They are the Network of Fallen Suns, and they are our home.
