Golden Peaks

The Golden Peaks is the mountain range that separates the Forests of Eldemur and Ryren Thalor. It is the former site of the Seelie Queen's palace. Upon her death it sank into the ground and mountains rose in its place.
The Plains Fae laid claim to them aeons ago and the Forest Fae never disputed it other than to ensure their people have safe passage through them

Geography

The Golden Peaks separate the Forests of Eldemur and Ryren Thalor. They are known for the riches or gold and precious gems that can be mined within them. The mountain range has an arctic climate and is known for its plummeting temperatures and dangerous icy paths.

Ecosystem Cycles

All the beasts living on the mountains are adapted to the cold. No High Fae live here but there are a few scattered Low Fae groups across the mountains. The Fae carved out paths a long time ago and it is seen as foolish to stray from them as they follow the routes that see the least number of beasts and are therefore the safest option to cross the mountains.

Localized Phenomena

The sun shining on the peaks of the mountains makes them appear golden instead of white. It is unknown what causes this but this is the reason for the name of the range. There are many tales among the Seelie that it is a sign from the late Seelie Queen that she watches over them still.

Natural Resources

The Golden Peaks have a wealth of gold, gem and jewels within their depths. The Plains Elves have continuous mines operating within many of the mountains to harvest these precious resources for themselves. The mines are all ran by Elves and worked by Low Fae.

History

When Titania died her palace began to slowly sink. As it did so the ground rose up around it, enclosing around the sinking structure until it was completely obscured and mountains where left in its place. There have been many expeditions in the past to locate the palace below the mountains.
These expeditions are what led to the Plains Elves discovering the wealth of riches in the mountains and the paths they explored actually became the start point for many mines that still operate today.

Tourism

The Golden Peaks are a dangerous area to travel through. The weather is unpredictable and getting caught in a blizzard can be fatal in the mountains. They are typically only travelled by those who cannot afford a ship to take them from Eldemur to Ryren Thalor or vice versa. Those that do so, rarely stray from the path.
Some visit the mountains for thrill seeking expeditions such as hiking or rock climbing and some go to tour the still operating mines.
