The description of this spell says it is for novice spellcasters to practice with. This might be true but this is also the #1 all-time best Utility Cantrip without exception. The options for this spell are extremely general but some common sense applications make it a spell that can be used to outright kill someone if used properly. I will offer a unique use for each option given in the spell. They might not be lethal but they can be used to accomplish a task that you might not think to solve with Prestidigitation.

  • Use the ability to create the odor of a known toxic substance or explosive agent and cause a panic.
  • Arson is a great way to accomplish a multitude of sins.
  • Mechanical objects will jam if there is to much dirt and dust in them.
  • Make a poison completely undetectable by taste.
  • Doctor information or change the details of a written message temporarily.
  • Create documents, badges, insignias of rank or other credentials to enter secured locations. The forgeries disappear but can be remade or different ones made instantly.
  These are examples of things you can do with this spell's options. There are more than I could ever possibly name so use common sense and creative problem solving and you will be using this cantrip from first level to twentieth.

Effect

You create one of the following magical effects within range:

  • You create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, faint musical notes, or an odd odor.
  • You instantaneously light or snuff out a candle, a torch, or a small campfire.
  • You instantaneously clean or soil an object no larger than 1 cubic foot.
  • You chill, warm, or flavor up to 1 cubic foot of nonliving material for 1 hour.
  • You make a color, a small mark, or a symbol appear on an object or a surface for 1 hour.
  • You create a nonmagical trinket or an illusory image that can fit in your hand and that lasts until the end of your next turn.

If you cast this spell multiple times, you can have up to three of its non-instantaneous effects active at a time, and you can dismiss such an effect as an action.

Manifestation

Because of the flexible nature of this cantrip the manifestations can be changed on the fly. The visual, auditory nd other sensory effects of this spell are simply aesthetic choices on behalf of the caster.
