Council Chamber of the Orangzamrud

Written by Blue Hawk

*This vast but spartan chamber, large enough to hold representatives from every clan and their aides at once, is decorated with the history of the Orangzamrud and is the seat of governance within @Lithelkos(* The chamber is large enough to hold all the clan representatives with space for aides.* Each clan has it’s own place, a chair and table designed to represent the clan, *and equal in space to every other clan when the chamber was built*. The warrior clans made use of many sword and shield motifs, while artisan clans had many intricate designs showing off skill in carpentry or stonework. The chamber is loosely split into six sections, each representing the Great Alliances of old, before the last war.   At the advent of the last war there were seven Great Alliances. Since the war was started by the seventh, and in such a way to cause nearly total destruction of the country, the seventh Great Alliance had been all but wiped out.   When the full council of clans are present there were always several empty seats. These represented the clans lost to the last war and were made up of mostly warrior and hunter clans, with one agriculture clan that had been wiped out in the first day of the war.   Amongst the empty seats was a unique seat. The one that represented the Sorcerer Clan of the Kroanisbrud. The clan seat sported a large pair of feathered metal wings, modelled on the wings used by the Sorcerer Clan in their effort to unite the remaining Great Alliances. The wings extended past the designated space set aside for the clan and the two seats on either side. These four seats represented the four clans who worked to hold the mountains of the Kroanisbrud against the onslaught, giving everything they had to allow enough time for the other Great Alliances to rally a defence.   These four seats represented one warrior clan and three hunter clans. Each of their tables held an artifact from that clan. Great pains had gone into making sure that they were the weapons that had been used by the last of each clan as they fell in battle.   The Warrior’s table held a mithril great sword.   One Hunter’s table held a dagger, one that was cracked.   The second and third Hunters’ tables held bows. One had been snapped along one limb with its string still holding the two parts together. The other was knocked with an arrow and was blood stained.   The council had gathered a series of traditions since its inception. Weapons were not banned, but there was an agreement that they all be left on a series of racks outside the main chamber. Magic was similarly frowned upon.   One of the strangest traditions was that the empty seats had a vote in matters. Each empty seat always abstained from the votes. But by some strange agreement is the abstained votes was greater than the other votes then the motion would be delayed. This fact alone has prevented small groups of clans from dominating and passing matters with less than a full complement of representation present. With 34 empty seats there needed to be at least 35 clans actually present to pass a matter, all voting in unison.   By tradition the Sorcerer Clan acts as a unifying voice within the council. Not as leaders of the country, but as those who bring everyone together. Any clan may call a meeting, and any clan has the right to refuse summons. But by tradition if the Sorcerer Clan calls the meeting all the clans send a representative.
