The King's Haven Heist

General Summary

“After a lengthy war unifying the kingdoms (The Targrave Conquest), King Leonius Targrave the Third had unified the continent of Eichenland under his banner. A massive festival was held in the captial city of King's Haven to honor the new King which saw a massive attendance. As such, a major attack against the kingdom was feared as seeds of rebellion began to form. Hence, the King sent the majority of his forces to protect the festival and ensure there was no attack. Meanwhile, a group of adventures heard tale of a grand heist being planned in King’s Haven. Upon arriving to the city, Deangelo the fashionable rouge, Ivory the secretive dancer, Jay the quick tempered tiefling druid, Durf the barley sentient barbarian, Black Vigilum the Dark Vigilante of King’s Haven, and Earwax the tinkerer, all met in the Blue Bison inn. There they met their employer, “The Playmaster” a dangerous crime lord in King's Haven with a passion for theatrics and harbored strange dark powers. After being introduced all around, they began planning a massive heist upon Kings Haven’s royal vault and to steal the ancient valuables inside. Beginning their plan, they used the Black Vigilum's infamy to pose as bounty hunters collecting a bounty on the vigilante. This ruse successfully worked and the understaffed guards let the party through the first gate. The guards proceeded to take the vigilante to the dungeon and Durf accompanied the parade of soldiers as he once was a officer in the military. The rest of the party were told to wait outside and were being watched by guards until Ivory cast a cantrip to distract three of the guards and Deangelo incapacitated the last guard. They then left to enter the palace through the crypt but were interrupted when they heard the voice of the King’s personal wizard making his rounds through the crypt. Upon being spotted, the party opened fire on the old wizard while he summoned the dead skeletons to fight alongside him. Green lightning reflects across the crypt walls and magic is flown through the air.   Suddenly, Durf arrived from the palace and instantly cleaved the old wizard across the room into a wall killing him. Together, they entered the dungeon and Durf encountered an imprisoned mother owl bear. After reuniting with Black Vigilum, the party let the owl bear loose, causing it to wreck havoc throughout the grand palace hallways. While the countless guards dealt with the massive beast, the party made their way to the vault entrance. There they witnessed as the Queen and King fought and argued together as a legion of royal guardsmen and soldiers followed. The queen then called the vault guardsmen to pursue the escaped owl bear. The party opened the vault and to their horror discovered the king’s dead body sitting atop a pile of his own gold and the valuable artifacts having been stolen. Immediately, the party were apprehended by Queen Catherine Riverheart and her forces. Upon awakening they found themselves back in their dungeon with everyone except for Earwax. The queen entered and told them they were to be executed for killing her husband and then left. Earwax then entered their cells by breaking out from a annex within the walls. Together they decided to return to The Playmaster hideout to seek answers and revenge to why they were set up. Upon arriving to his abandoned theatre, The Playmaster was surprised to see the party still alive and decided to take things into his own hands. He summoned his thugs, shadow creatures, and his massive shadow Behir to battle the party. Debris fell down, dynamite exploded, bullets flew, Ivory was eaten, lightning pelted the sky, thunder shouted out across the stage, but eventually, The Playmaster and his forces were defeated. Afterwards, the party discovered a carriage carrying the stolen valuables from the king’s vault. Black Vigilum also discovered a strange device that projected a smoke like vision of an encounter between Queen Catherine Riverheart and The Playmaster in which the queen hires The Playmaster to murder her husband.   Immediately after the vision played through, Queen Catherine Riverheart and an entire legion of soldiers stormed the theatre. While standing on the stage, Black Vigilum tried to attempt to shoot at the Queen but her shield guardsmen managed to block his bullet. The Queen then made a proposal to the party, she agreed to let them go and leave with their new treasures if they gave her the evidence proving she ordered the murder of the king. After disagreeing with her proposal, Black Vigilum made one last quickdraw shot to shoot the Queen. He fired his weapon and as he did nearly twenty crossbow men fired their arrows. The bullet soared through the air and miraculously went between the tiniest of cracks between the shields and ripped through the Queen’s eye and head. The arrows came plummeting towards the Black Vigilum and he amazingly managed to dodge all of the projectiles. He then fled to the carriage and together the party rode out of town while being fired upon by the countless dozens of soldiers giving chase. Each of the party members firing and slicing at enemies while making their escape. And thus the session ended as the party flee the city of King's Haven with the entire King's Haven army in hot pursuit.”
