Azrael is death itself, born the same instance as Lucifer. The two are twins and are reflections of each other. azrael has green eyes and beautiful gray wings. He is most often seen in his reaper form which is skeletal by nature, the wings and eyes remain. Azrael, like Lucifer is comprised of grace and malice. Azrael oversees the Source and the Reapers.
The Source is the source of grace and malice, but also the very place where souls are born. The denizens of Sheol call this place the Soul Mine, from it every soul is born and rejuvenated.
The Reapers are a class of being that are exempted from the flow of life and death by Azrael. Their souls make up the very bodies that they inhabit, if one is killed that soul ceases to exist. Reapers only appear to humans when they are between life and death. Reapers are there to guide them to what comes next. Reapers can be seen other beings depending on their strength, for example a new born fairy cannot but an ancient one can.
Azrael, being death, can see the death of everything in the universe including himself. Using this ability, Azrael and Lucifer concocted a plan to save the universe and themselves in the process. All in the hopes of seeing the Creator again.
