A Conquering Kingdom

this is the conflict that takes the life of El and Theo's mom. The two are only around 10 years old when their village is plundered and burnt to the ground by an unknown kingdom. This leads to the brothers and the rest of the children to flee and fend for themselves. The children are able to outrun the invading army and survive. the children manage to find another village 3 days away, they warn the new village of the invading force. El and Theo leave their friends behind hellbent on finding another kingdom that will lead them to avenge their lost mother. years pass and the 2 are in their early 20's, they are battle hardened from years of mercenary work. El is now a master of blood magic and known as the Spellbinder. Theo has mastered many forms of weaponry and fighting styles. the two have traveled far, avoiding any work for the tyrant that killed their mother. finally they have found a kingdom that is looking for soldiers to go to war with the tyrant king. the war effort lasts a couple of years, El and Theo are regarded as the heroes of many battles. their king requests them in his war tent, the king asks "what drove you two mercenaries to fight against this tyrant? surely not the money, nor the food, nor even fame. you have refused all rewards, clearly you are more skilled than most. so why fight for me?" to this they respond with the truth " the Tyrant killed our mother, the only reward we seek is: let it be our blades that bring him to his knees."
the tyrant king has struck a deal with demons. the monsters of the earth and creature from the depths of hell roam the battle fields fighting for the tyrant king. El and Theo lead the armies through without reprieve. El throws spells one after another, the more blood on the field the stronger his spells become, but even he has a limit. Theo, bolstered by his brother's magics, tears through the monsters and demons as if he was one of them. Theo lost in his barrage of attacks fails to see a cross bow bolt. El sees it and casts a spatial displacement spell, but his exhaustion get the better of him. Theo and El swap positions. the bolt pierces El's armor lodged in his back. the incorrectly cast spell blows the demons away with a burst of force. Theo runs quickly to El's side. the life is leaving El, Theo can see the light leaving his eyes. Theo desperately tries to get El to hang on, Theo attempts the Healing spell El always used on him. no effect.
a demon returns, Maw raised to strike Theo and take his life. El can see it with dying breath, a different figure appears. This one is wearing a black cloak, a needle and ball of yarn in its hands "come with me" it says calmly, voice feminine. El looks down to see himself rising from his body. time seems altered. the demons maw is moving slowly toward Theo's back, ready to tear his brother to shreds. the battle around them seems lost. El makes his decision.
"BURAG!"
an explosion calms the battle field, Smoke fills the area surrounding Theo and the Demon. Theo coughs and waves his sword to disperse the smog. Theo hears scratching in the dirt and the smog clears. there stands El, runes written in the dirt, bolt sticking out of his back. El slams his staff into the dirt runes "FULGUROS SHAMZERID!" the runes alight with magics, lightning cracks down from storm clouds that appeared from nowhere, all the blood from the field evaporates, the lightning strikes the ground across the battlefield in a perfect line. " Retreat and regroup, live to fight another day!" El yells to the army. Theo sees it now, a barrier formed of lightning, a new spell never before seen.
