Karp Town Fishing Festival

A much beloved annual tradition of the Karp Town residents, used as celebration of Merida and a sign of a good harvest.   The festival takes place over a fourteen days, where men and woman of Karp Town fish across the surrounding river banks to catch the biggest and rarest fresh water fish.   The time period this takes place is when the river is at it's most populous. Presumably a breeding season for the fish, the river becomes teaming with fish and the harvest is bountiful.   Each night of the festival after a days fishing, the catches are weighed in the town square and a scoreboard is kept of who has the largest catch. The overall winner at the end of the fourteen days is awarded the title of Master Fisherman and for the next year receives free fish weekly on behalf of the town's lord.   The opening night of the festival is usually a rowdy affair. The markets are set up and local trades men will do their best to sell bait, fishing tools and other devices to help the contestants. A feast is held for the whole town in the town square and mead and food is provided by the lord.   On the final night a similar banquet is provided, a long with the presentation of the title of Master Fisherman by the town's lord. The Master Fisherman will host next years opening ceremony as master of ceremonies.   River Maeve has a plethora of different species of fish but most notably the following can be found:
  • Salmon
  • Trout
  • Catfish
  • Eels
  • Carp
