Pillory Hill
Pillory Hill is a slightly raised area, a stone's throw from the Enclave Watchtower. It has several rough stone stocks and pillories resting on a plain granite dais. The restraints are in various sizes for the different Enclave races. Someone is punished on Pillory Hill roughly once per tenday, and these are published several days in advance by The Gazette. When someone is in the stocks/pillory, it is always guarded by at least two members of The Enclave Watch, who discourage thrown objects or other physical displays of contempt toward the punishee, as well as providing water if necessary. However, The Enclave Watch does not discourage vocal insults (except by the punishee). Disorderly conduct can earn a couple hours on Pillory Hill, and petty theft can earn a full day (in addition to restitution). Since the Enclave is a relatively small and crowded society, public shaming is an effective punishment. Pillory Hill is never used at night, though sometimes adolescents sneak up there to make a game out of putting each other in the pillory.
