Outside the Great Gate

The Great Gate is an exit roughly southward from a mostly sheer cliff into a large clearing surrounded by old growth forest. The trees are huge and widely spaced. It's easy to move around between the trees since they shade out most of the plants below. Druids and wizards with Earth spells frequently obscure any trails that might begin to develop in the clearing or forest near the Great Gate, to keep it thoroughly hidden. Foraging Parties are encouraged to leave as little sign as possible.   The cliff from which the Great Gate exits curves outward slowly toward the east and west. A few miles to each side, the cliff descends and becomes hillside, some stable and rocky, others covered with scree. Other lower hilltops and peaks east and west of the Enclave can thus be accessed.   The forest slopes gently downward toward the south. It is mostly broadleaf trees, many of which have edible nuts in the summer and fall. Occasional fallen trees give rise to large clearings that contain brush, small trees, and sometimes berry bushes or other edible plants. There are occasional rocky hills that sometimes thrust above the level of the treetops.   North of the Great Gate and the Enclave, there is a narrow double mountain peak that is the tallest in that mountain range, and is always snowcovered. It's called the Twin Spires, and it would be a useful landmark for finding the Enclave again from far away.

This map is incomplete. People can't see far within the forest and important places may yet be hidden within 'explored' areas. Foraging Parties also don't always share their discoveries.   The scale is 1 hex per mile.   This map will change greatly over the course of the campaign, so don't use World Anvil to mark points in the map. Updates will be made in Worldographer and uploaded.   Metagame: this map is primarily based on the Adventure Log - Second Venture. Zoom in to see various labels etc.
