Belethios, the Aspect of the Dragon

Belthios is a longsword crafted long ago in the first age of modern civilization. It is said to hold the very essence of a long-dead dragon and some believe there are 5 versions of this sword, one for every colour of the chromatic dragons (Red, Blue, Black, Green, White). Belethios itself is the aspect of the blue dragon and has been chased by some blue dragons that have to reach great wyrm status.   The blade has a faint blue glow to it when it is activated and has many runes that decorate the Vauxian Steel it was made out of. The guard and hilt of the blade have blue dragon scales attached to them. The guard is shaped to look like two spread-out wings of a dragon and have 5 gems put into it, all of them masterpieces of their own and worth thousands of gold each.

History

The first age was defined by the first arrival of the Val'aar. Many kingdoms of their creation had risen and fallen from in-fighting between the elves. Belethios was wielded by Kalexior of the Dawnfall dynasty during the 1300s and is the first known user of this weapon. He used to fight of the greatest demonic incursion from the abyss Vallaheim has ever seen. That blade passed down multiple generations from father soon, which in Val'aar time was close to 10 000 years. After that, the blade was lost to time having been collected by an ancient red dracolich whose name has been lost to time. This dracolich is believed to have been slain during the second age by an elite group of warriors that called themselves The Wolfs of Vellyia from the city of Vellyia.   During the draconic wars that doomed The Val'aar High Kingdom at the end of the second age, this blade appears again. The blade, wielded by a great general was shattered after a vital defeat in a now long-gone fortress. For hundreds of years, even professors of The Arcane Alliance believed the blade to be entirely lost and sealed away in deep dark caverns or similarly dangerous places.

Powers & Abilities

The blade is heavily enchanted and has many abilities, some very powerful and some quite minor. Scholars have been trying to uncover the depths of this weapon's power but the study of it is extremely difficult as its true nature was kept from anyone that never was unfortunate enough to cross its path.
  • "Thorns", while wielding Belethios and someone strikes you arcs of lightning and thunder crack from the 5 gems being especially deadly for those wearing some sort of metallic armour.
  • Belethios is an embodiment of the blue dragon and thus lightning. Legends say that upon hit some enemies tense up and are shocked after being hit.

Manufacturing process

The most difficult part of conditing the Vauxian steel was that it had to be infused with lightning. It could be done in a couple of ways but in the end, the only effective method found was to have the metal be breathed on by a blue dragon chained to the will of a highly powerful enchanter for a short period of time.

Raw materials & Components
The blade itself is made out of Vauxian Steel. Vauxian Steel is an extremely rare alloy made with materials mined in the Vauxi Mountains by the dwarfs of the small kingdom that lays there. The material is made out of the purest and highest quality mithril there is in addition to similarly supreme iron. Lastly, it is infused with adamantine and silver, both materials aid with harming creatures such as ghosts and constructs that sometimes resist blades that are not layered or made with/of the materials.   The hilt is tanned from the scales of a blue dragon. The origin of the gems is believed to me deep within the Vauxi mountains and are treasures dwarvish miners are not parted with easily. Just the refining of it alone costed a fortune and required the best jewellers the world had ever seen.  Together they have an estimated value as low as 25 000 GP or as high as 100 000 GP. It is however quite difficult to estimate the value of such jewels as it is extremely rare that those kinds of jewels ever get sold, especially in an "open" market or "public" auction.   The Runes are inscribed with refined residuum.
