The Arcane Alliance

The Arcane Alliance is the most powerful mages guild in all of Vallaheim. Its mages range from arcanists specialized in evocation, abjuration, illusion, enchantment, divination, transmutation and many more fields. It has been dissolved and been reforged countless times and was founded early in the second age after the mage wars had divided the magical populations. The Arcane Alliance founded the Academy of Nightwell as a way of protecting the otherwise stagnating magical population. While the organisation allow more absurd spellcasters such as bards and druids to join most decide not to partly because many scholars and professors consider druidic magic especially to be way less sophisticated and primal than arcane magic which they focus on. They also do not have any courses beyond mentorship that go into these magic forms which lead many to other clans and Mages' Guilds. They were allowed to either study in the academy's classes or to get a mentor. Traditionally, the arcanists or wizards chose to study and the "innate" spellcasters chose mentorship.

Structure

As a member of the arcane alliance, you will have a rank in their hierarchy. When a mage joins the guild he/she will get the rank of "Initiate" which the person will uphold until they prove themselves to be capable of conducting work for the organization, during this time they are tested in the fields of academics, control over the weave, researching, teamwork and more. After which they will receive the rank of "Scholar". The ranks increases in strength, both the user's magical capabilities and his/her influence within the alliance all the way up to "High Archmage" which is the highest attainable position and can only be had by one person per school/type of magic.   The ranks ranging from lowest to bottom go as follows: Initiate, scholar, professor, archmage, high archmage.  

Uniform

All initiates wear turquoise robes with white belts. When the initiate graduates he or she will usually wear the uniform while on duty or in formal situations, at that point it becomes a deep oceanic blue. Professors wear strict topaz robes with crystal gems that represent the different schools of magic.   Archmages wear strict robes with each colour representing the person's school of magic. High Archmages uniforms are embroidered with the colour of the gem they were.   Gems by associated school:

The High Council

The High Council or their more formal name, "The High Paragons of Arcana". There are only a couple of these, one per magical school to be precise. Recently, there has also been an elected person from The Bladesinger Initiative, they're a new sub-organization that has been trying to revive blade singing after the fall of The Val'aar High Kingdom. In the old days blade singing was actually very common among Val'aar warriors. However, since the beginning of the third age, there has only been in some cases only one mage capable of becoming a high archmage since not all practitioners have the potential to reach the level of an archmage. The Alliance Hierarchy defines an archmage as someone being able to cast a ninth level spell without the aid of magical items.   Among these electives one will become the leader and leads the organization through the years they're elected. This leader is called "The Guardian". Traditionally the guardian will be the high archmage of either evocation or transmutation but really anyone can be and has been elected. This wizard will be the most powerful spellcaster in the entire world capable of casting multiple 9th level spells and creating his own. The current guardian as of 892 TA is Egon Stormwalker, the high archmage of evocation with a specialization in lightning and thunder magic.

Assets

In Nightwell there exists an enormous storage facility where scholars, professors and archmages can get components for spell research and chemistry. All scholars have access to have a discount on larger purchases. Professors have a larger discount and archmages get stuff like it for free if their research is in the interest of the guild.  

The Spellforge

A magical forge that professors and archmages use to create magical items and artefacts. As of now, the latest creation that is known is Oathkeeper; a magical greatsword created for the head of the order of fury.

History

Before the founding of the organization, the study of magic was chaotic and consisted of hundreds if not thousands of unorganised groups not much bigger than a family. The first bigger mages guild was the Arcane Triumvirate which was created in unison with a druidic group known as the Keepers of Agarus. A couple of similar organisations sprung up during the end of first age but none really stuck around. The Keepers of Agarus was very tight-knit and invite based which made it so it was never bigger than a few dozen people.

Territories

They control an area around nightwell equal to aproximately 76 000 km2. In addition to this, their control and most importantly influence lies across the entire continent and beyond. Throughout almost every major city, country, empire, kingdom and the like. They are by far, the most powerful organization on the planet. Even though they do not directly control a big part of Vallaheim and beyond they have strongholds, scholars and even spies in all of its corners.
