Verities
The Verities are a revered and fearsome order of priests and paladins devoted to The Dyad, emerging from the enigmatic traditions of the Ministry of Lies. Unlike the Confessors and courtroom-bound agents of the sect, the Verities are itinerant zealots of truth, wandering the lands of the Ancellan Theocracy and beyond on sacred missions to expose lies, unravel conspiracies, and confront moral decay wherever it festers.
Each Verity is bound by solemn oaths to seek not just truth, but the balance between truth and deception, a duality central to Dyadic theology. They believe that truth without understanding is tyranny, and deception without consequence is chaos. Thus, their holy quests often involve complex moral judgments—rooting out corruption in noble courts, dismantling secret cabals, revealing hypocrisy in religious orders, or even confronting corrupted fellow clergy.
Clad in austere robes layered with chain or ceremonial armor and marked with the sigil of the split mask (white and black), Verities wield divine authority and unwavering conviction. Their presence is both feared and respected, for they are granted autonomy to judge as they see fit. In towns and cities, their arrival is often heralded with anxiety, as no falsehood—whether personal, political, or divine—is beyond their gaze.
Some carry Divining Staves or relics said to glow in the presence of powerful lies. Others are granted spells of revelation and compulsion, allowing them to unearth hidden truths and force confessions. Their power is not in brute force alone, but in their ability to discern motive, detect contradiction, and pierce veils of illusion—both magical and mundane.
Though lauded by some as champions of justice, others see them as dangerous zealots. Yet to the Verities, reputation is irrelevant. Only truth matters. And in the eyes of The Dyad, truth and lies are both sacred tools—weapons to be wielded wisely, and never without cost.
