Northern Expanse
The Northern Expanse is a vast region lying to the north of the Overlands and extending to the east until the flatlands terminate in the Black Hills directly above the Dark Lands. The Northern Expanse is a wide series of grasslands and cold prairies that culminate in a brief band of taiga before reaching the tundras in the true north.
The Expanse is sparsely populated and mostly by remnant tribes and clans, along with a significant number of Centaurs who roam the grasses continually migrating along with the herds of the animals that move from end to end with the seasons in search of food. These centaur tribes rarely number more than a hundred or so but there have been seasons of desperation where numerous tribes have come together to raid into the lower lands. The centaurs continue to be a problem even in good years as they are violent and thrive on chaos. Furthermore, with their migratory lifestyle, they have not perfected much of the arts of metallurgy or industry. To gain these items, small bands of raiders filter south and plunder amongst the civilized peoples.
