Paleum

Paleum is the tenth and poison planet. Paleum is made mostly out of swamps, marshes, bogs and fens, some parts above the shallow pool of water that coats most of the land, it also has rainforests and subtropical areas above the water. It is incredibly humid and warm, to the point that visitors might experince flu like symtoms, runny noses, sweating, exhustion, even fainting etc. And that is nothing to consider the noxious fumes that comes from the plant life and old rotting fur/feathers/scales rotting inside the swamp waters, which can cause vomiting.

Geography

Paleum contains mostly swamps, marshes, bogs and fens. It also has few parts that are above the shallow pool of water that coats most of the land, which typically take the form of rainforests and subtropical areas. All the areas that contain the shallow water tend to gather dead plant matter and old fur, feathers, and scales, which then rot and produce a horridly rancid smell. It has a few ponds and even lakes within the swamps that are isolated from the rest of the swamp, allowing for clean drinking water. The rainforests and subtropical plains also contain rivers that have a clean water source as well.

Ecosystem

The Local Animals have devloped various toxins, mostly venoms but some poisons as a way to get rid of the massive amounts of dead, often matted plant matter, the sometimes mildly toxic fruits and other plants used for food, and also to compete with one another in the harsh swamp environment. Some of it is more defensive, like how some poison elemental mammals produce some toxic sweat from certain areas of their fur that was used as a way to defend themselves from being grabbed or physically attacked. Other cases were more offensive, like some how poison elemental reptiles spat venom from their fangs to take down prey. In other cases, it can be used for either one, like how some poison elemental birds can spray out a toxic gas that could have been used either to discourage an attacker or to attack prey without getting close. Paleum gets wet winters, humid falls, slightly moist springs and dry summers.

Ecosystem Cycles

Paleum gets intense rainfall during the winter that almost floods the swamp (sometimes light frost or rarely even snow) and the flora either slows it growth to a hault or dies out. The dead plant life and matted fur/feathers/scales (the latter of which only happens sometimes) grow more moist and stick to one another even worse, creating the ideal breeding ground for bacteria and germs alike, resulting in a smell that can only be discribed as rotten eggs and making it much harder to wade through the swamp water. It also makes the perfect place for mushrooms and other fungi to grow rampently. The spring gets slightly lower water levels then average as the rain begins to slow down after Winter, the Flora starts to grow again and the water grows a little less filthy, with less rotting plant matter and animal shed. The Fungi remain present, outside of currently rotting matter, but they are less common then in the winter. During the Summer, the rains have mostly stopped, leading to a incredibly low water level, sometimes completely absent in some areas. The Flora is is in full swing, growing as much as they can. Most of the rotten flora and animal shed remains have already been rottted away, leaving little to nothing, leading to a surprisingly pleasent time for Paleum. During the Fall, rainfall grows to moderate levels, with slightly higher water levels then average. The Flora start to enter dormancy or die, the swamp waters, while possibly slightly more clogged with rotten plant life and animal shed, is still not severe.

Localized Phenomena

Paleum is known for having a noxious stench coming from it's swamp waters, which are filled with algae, and also dead, rotting plant life. It is at it's worst during the winter, where the massive amounts of dead plants combined with the rather high water levels create a massive breeding ground for the worst bacteria and germs and most rancid smell.

Climate

Palum is incredibly humid and warm in climate. Said humidity and heat can be harsh enough to cause sickness, cold/flu like symtoms to be exact. Despite going through seasons with a few small changes in temperature here and there, it seldom ever leaves a general warm and humid climate.

Natural Resources

Paleum does have wood from Bog Melaleuca and Great Jarrah and it's flowers, the Wine Wattle and Climbing Oarchid are also sold for looks, it has quite the Fungi market, with folk using the Tan Bolete for cooking, appearntly, it goes great in many soups and stews. They also taste great when lightly roasted as a kabab.

History

Paleum was once mostly ocean, however, the ocean levels slowly fell and drained out to other parts of the planet due to rivers, the rivers eventually were eventually closed off by walls of ground and dirt, going deep underground instead, plant life grew to incredibly amounts in these shallow waters, but the humidity and shallow waters made it hard to survive, leaving mats of dead plant matter, along with the algea that was present before, the plants continued to grow and die off, resulting in the Paleum we know today.

Tourism

Paleum rarely gets any visitors due to the odor and harsh humidity, those that come typically go for the mushrooms or flowers, a few go sightseeing (typically with gasmasks) and a few are explorers to see every inch of Paleum, even if it smells horrid and the swamp water is disgusting.
