Aasimar

"Ah, another wonderful morning!"
Blessed by The Observer on High, or at least holding ties to the Plane of Light, Aasimar or Lighttouched are treated similarly in Imperial Arrboth to how Watertouched are treated in Chal. This admiration is often only increased by their attractiveness, though these same traits can easily breed jealousy or possessiveness in others. Commonly joyful optimists, many Aasimar revel in how others treat them despite this, but this treatment, along with their nature, often leaves them vulnerable to the slightest criticism. Outside Arrboth, their beauty is still far from ignored, and the positive energy they give off often makes them fast friends. Just as often, though, their apparent ceaseless positivity can come off as grating to more introverted folk.   Physically, Aasimar look much like their (typically Humans) parents, though with eyes of gold or other unnaturally vibrant colors, and unnaturally lustrous hair of similarly unusual colors. They also give off a faint glow at all times, which can sometimes manifest from their eyes or as a halo. Emotionally, while most are positive, this 'positivity' can vary greatly. Some are selfish and egotistical (which their treatment in Arrboth does little to help) while still finding joy in their own circumstances, others are more outgoing and altruistic. Some uphold beauty in action and try to live the best lives possible, while others find appeal in baser pleasures.

Racial Modifiers

  • Characteristics: Aasimar gain a +1 to PER and POW, but suffer a -1 to WP. As beautiful and charismatic as they are, their distance from negative emotion leaves them somewhat fragile.
  • Elevated Sight: Aasimar gain the See the Supernatural Advantage at no cost.
  • Illuminated: Aasimar constantly emit a weak glow and display vibrant colors, making Hiding difficult in almost any environment for them. To make matters worse, the effects of their magical, psionic, or ki abilities, including their aura, are plainly visible unless completely suppressed with Magic Appraisal, Hide Matrices, or Ki Concealment respectively. (In the case of Hide Matrices, this means having the power active at Difficult or higher when manifesting the psychic power to be made invisible.) They also suffer a -30 to Stealth, Theft, and Disguise. However, they can strengthen their glow fairly easily, allowing them to produce light around themselves in a 10 meter radius.
  • Visionary: Aasimar gain a +30 to Notice and Search, as well as +20 to Magic Appraisal for identifying magic, a +20 to Psychic Potential when using Sense Matrices, and a +10 to Ki Detection (on top of what is provided from their Notice). They are also more easily able to evoke positive emotions in others and are generally optimistic and sociable, granting them +20 to Leadership, Persuasion, and Style. They have a certain emotional fragility as well, however, giving them a -20 to Composure against the effects of negative emotions.
  • Observer's Foresight: Gifted by Light, Aasimar sometimes have brief flashes of visions of the future. if they or an ally that can hear them would be surprised by circumstances besides a difference of Initiative, they may spend a point of Fatigue to remove the penalty or reduce it to -40 for that ally, though they are still not able to act or attack the source of surprise preemptively in either case. They may alternatively acquire the Danger Sense Advantage for only 1 CP and lose the other benefits of this racial ability.
  • Lightkin: Aasimar take half damage from attacks based on Light, but 50% more against attacks based on Darkness. In addition, they suffer a -20 to Resistance checks against effects related to negative emotions.
  • Imbalance towards Light: Aasimar that learn elemental abilities are obligated to focus in those related to Light first. In other words, their first Path of Magic or Elemental Compatibility must be Light, and their first Psychic Discipline must be Light or Hypersensitivity. However, they gain an additional +10 MA or +20 Potential when casting from this path or using this discipline, respectively, and any attacks based on their element gain +10 Base Damage.
