Watertouched

"They say that she calmed down during the baptism and cried again when they took her out. Suddenly, naming her 'Jennifer' felt a little uninspired."
Few Planetouched garner quite the same response that those blessed by the water do, especially in The Kingdom of Chal. When these innately serene beings first appeared in the kingdom, the church regarded them as saints. This died down as they became relatively more common, but the idea of their divine connections is present in the minds of many, and they often receive special treatment. At the same time, this can be more grating and stressful than beneficial, as it is a rare Watertouched that revels in fame. In Nalanosa, they are somewhat less common, but highly regarded for their useful abilities, and in Arrboth they are even rarer.   Apart from their controlled dispositions, most of these 'Oceankin' or 'Rimesouled' come in a few physical varieties. Many have pale, bluish skin with long, straight, nearly translucent hair to match. Their hair just as frequently curls near the bottom of its length, or is shorter, whiter, and verges off in 'spikes', either around shoulder length or all the way at the scalp. Some of those less blessed in appearance possess vaguely slimy or scaly skin and webbing between their fingers and toes.

Racial Modifiers

  • Characteristics: Watertouched gain a +1 to PER and WP, but suffer a -1 to STR. They have impressive presence of mind, but often lack the bodies to match.
  • Resistance: Watertouched gain immunity to 5 Intensities of Cold, but also take 50% more damage from Fire.
  • Maiden's Grace: When using an unarmed or using an attack or weapon based on Water or Cold, a Watertouched character may opt to have the weapon or attack Damage Energy before rolling for attack or defense, but they may only do this up to five times per minute or they will lose a point of Fatigue per attempt. They may also use this on weapons or attacks capable of using Cold as a damage type even if they do not use it for the attack.
  • Maiden's Mirror: Whenever a Watertouched successfully defends from a supernatural discharge with a method of defense capable of damaging energy (whether through magic, their psychic or ki abilities, or Maiden's Grace, though not through equipment), they may spend a point of Fatigue to reflect the attack on its original user using the same Final Attack Ability as the original strike. The Fatigue cost of this ability increases by 1 for every 100 points of Base Damage possessed by the supernatural discharge.
  • Reserved: Watertouched are calm and reserved, almost to a fault. They gain a +20 to Composure and Etiquette, but suffer a -20 to Leadership, and Intimidate.
  • Born of Seas: Watertouched are capable of breathing in unpolluted fresh or saltwater as well as air, and are right at home in water. They can develop their Swim ability for 1 DP per point. However, they also require twice as much liquid per day as a Human.
  • Imbalance towards Water: Watertouched that learn elemental abilities are obligated to focus in those related to Water first. In other words, their first Path of Magic or Elemental Compatibility must be Water, and their first Psychic Discipline must be Cryokinesis. However, they gain an additional +10 MA or +20 Potential when casting from this path or using this discipline, respectively.
