The Illahi faith is a monotheistic faith united behind the tenants of the Holy Prophet Jafar Illahia, chosen by the One True God to spread his word across the lands. The Illahi believe that the world was created by the One True God with the help of his Divines, angelic servants who assisted with many important tasks, including the creation of mortals. Alas, many of the Divines, not being infallible as the True God became attached to these mortals and sought to be worshipped by them. Thus, in claiming the worship of others they became the Fallen. When the One True God found out about their betrayal, he sent the remaining Divines to the world surface in order to combat such polytheistic heresy. However, this made the problem worse as mortals instead saw the Divines as gods and started worshipping them too. Realizing this was futile, the One True God recalled his Divines and chose to wait until a sufficiently holy man was born to spread the word.
That man was Jafar Illahia. At the age of 30, he began recieving visions from the One True God and soon devoted his life to following him. He gathered other holy men and began to teach them the Truth, writing the Holy Books in order to further spread the word. Under the guidance of the One True God he dropped his family name and instead took up the honorary Illahia (Chosen of God). He united the disparite
Al'salaan tribes under the banner of Illahism and forged a mighty empire to protect the faithful, securing the safety of his people. Unfortunately, he was only mortal and soon died. Although his eldest son and the subsequent Jafarid dynasty tried to keep the faithful together, eventually the Illahi split into many groups, heretical teachings became common, and the Empire collapsed.
In the modern era the Illahi have coalesced into three main groups, the Al'shahr, Al'fatim, and Al'utham. The Al'shahr believe that the Holy Successorship was intended to become elective after the death of His Holiness Abdulhamid Illahar Edeghor w Jafarid VII. Every time the current Al'shahr dies, the College of Imams meets to select a new Successor, whose word is that of the One True God in this realm. On the other hand, the Al'fatim believe that it is the bloodline of the Holy Prophet that is holy and that a Holy Successor can only come from this family. Therefore, their rulers use blood ties in order to show their legitimacy to rule, though only claiming the Successorship when uniting most of the Illahi. Finally, the Al'utham believe that the Al'salaan are themselves holy and that only pure humans are worthy to be saved by the One True God. A radical sect, their belief in communal authority and extreme racism makes them a fringe group, though one which retains a significant following among some of the poor.
