Solamien
The Solamien are the resident gnomes of Telgren, mostly made of communities which settled many years ago as merchants or intermediaries and never left. They are in many ways typical of the Gnomish populations on other continents; content to establish small trading cities and merchant leagues but not really seeking conquest. Of course, Telgren has positive racial collaboration in many nations, reducing the urgency for independence, though of course many trading posts remain independent following strife in their once-overlords. Solamiens are present mostly through Southern Telgren, with their population concentrated in the small regions mentioned above. They have little inland presence, but more than in most other continents due to Telgren's navigable rivers. There are three different Solamien subcultures; the Cayasoon, the Arghipal, and the Isili.
The Cayasoon are the Gnomes which live in the Blazennian Empire. While Gnomes were not a founding ethnicity of the nation, they have nonetheless played a major role throughout its history. The Cayasoon originally got their name from the Gnomes who settled the interior of the Empire (eventually forming the county of Caysil), but this name later came to refer to all Gnomes living in the empire, as they share similar culture and values. The Cayasoon have pretty much come to view race as a complete non-factor, at least when referring to the "non-monstrous" races. While facing slight racism from some members of the Imperial court, in general Gnomes are well-enough integrated into the Empire that they are able to do things like be elected emperor, though such a thing has only happened once due to their general physical weakness. Of course, even the Cayasoon rarely interbreed with humans, so Gnoman are still very rare.
To the west of the Empire, there are several concentrated settlements of Gnomes along the coast of the Telgren's second largest bay. These are known as the Isili, as their largest population is in Isileum. Despite this, the Isili do not hold a majority in the city. The Ilisi also have a presence in the Fjallrock region, where they have settlements in the halfling lands there. The Ilisi are in many ways the prototypical Gnomes, though they have a penchant for smuggling, made necessary due to conflicts with both the Tritons and the Erleting tribes.
On the eastern half of Telgren, the Arghipal sub-culture is dominant among Gnomes. Of the Arghipal, the nation of Simafsiand is probably the most prominent, having taken control of a relatively large region not populated by Gnomes at all, which they gained by aiding the local Taytamans in pushing back Orentesh invaders. The Arghipal have a number of northern expeditions which aim to bring back valuable resources from the far north, though they have never been able to establish trading posts as far north as they would like. They also play a major role in trade between Ærellion and Telgren, mostly working with the Cloriadmen in this regard.
