Sköddoran Mountains

The Sköddoran Mountains are the defining feature of western Halyren. A gigantic mountain range featuring numerous peaks over 6,000 feet, multiple volcanoes, and several large glaciers, the Sköddoran Mountains are a majestic sight. However, they are also extremely dangerous and a wide variety of monstrous creatures inhabit the range. The Sköddoran range is also extremely influential on the development of Halyren's terrain as a whole. Cool and wet waters from the Synarxes current strike the western coast of Halyren, bringing with them large amounts of rain. However, the rain does not pass over the mountains in meaningful capacity, giving them a huge rain shadow over most of western Halyren. Though the foothills on the western side of the mountains retain some semblance of fertility, the desert quickly creeps in once these flatten out. The Sköddoran Mountains blocking the rain also has a hugely positive impact on the short strip of land to their east, creating the Faream Rainforest around their northern reaches as well as the Sčsjevar Forest in its central reaches.
