Sakir - Cavern Dwarves
"Dwarves? Nay, I am certain they are a myth. Nobody I ever met has seen one, at least." - An alekeeper living about 2 days travel from the nearest Sakir settlement, from the journals of Ezel the wanderer
The Sakir are secretive New World Dwarves, unknown to most of the world. Like most dwarves, they prefer to live in mountains and mine out their homes. Unlike most dwarves, however, Sakir prefer to isolate themselves completely. Sakir nations typically corden off the entrances to their strongholds, leaving only air vents. The Sakir refuse to engage in offensive warfare, but if attacked will consider it their mission to eradicate every attacker. This, they do with terrifying efficiency, and in complete silence. Sakir possess latent telepathic abilities, and do not have an oral tradition (though they have written language). Sakir are very learned individuals and the highest calling in their society is complete isolation. Sakir, upon reaching maturity (~50 years) will exile themselves from society for decades, returning with new wisdom. A Sakir’s placement in society is entirely determined by how long they remain in exile, which creates a very unique society. Due to the way Sakir society works, they have less children than other races- but their isolation and general unwillingness to do battle means that the Sakir exist in rather large numbers. If, however, they were to be attacked on a large scale by, say, colonial ventures, Sakir society would probably crumble.
