Herscia

The Herscia are a warlike civilization of humanoid beetles, with a number of different variants. Herscia are also organized into a strict caste system based on one's variation, and are assigned to castes upon hatching. The main difference between Herscia variants is that, while all Herscia have 6 limbs, some have four legs and two arms, and others have two legs and four arms. A Herscia's body type is also accentuated by their horn, with large-horned Herscia being favored. By using these two things, the Herscians can determine which caste a newborn will be assigned. The lowest of castes is the worker caste is only made up of the unfortunate Herscia born without a horn as well the four-legged variant, as four-legged Herscia are considered less prestigious. These workers have their horns cut off at birth to show their low status, and generally perform menial tasks and are often totally without rights, used as little better than slave labor. Still, those born with horns tend to bully those who lacked it from birth, as they are considered even lower than the others. One step up from workers, the slightly more prestigious servants retain their horns as it shows they are above the workers. It's also considered attractive to have horns, and since Herscia of both genders like to sleep with their servants they prefer them to be more attractive. The servants are mostly made up of four-legged variants with fine horns. They also perform menial tasks, but are expected to have some level of decorum, so they are given a small amount of education (mostly on how to not piss off their master). Although the servant caste shares much in common with the workers the horn/hornless divide is the perfect barrier between them working together. Servants are also often ridden into battle by warriors Herscia. Above the servants are the artisanal caste, mostly made up of four-armed Herscia which nonetheless have poor horns. These Herscia are mostly occupied making weapons or trading as the Herscia mostly lack other forms of even the most limited industry. They are treated somewhat well, but are locked out of the highest levels of society due to their lack of fighting skills. Above these Herscia, the Warriors are the military elite. Given broad rights and control over many servants and workers, the Warriors are dedicated to fighting and martial prowess. Their many duties include managing slaves, fighting in gladiator matches, and expanding the reach of the Herscia by fighting and raiding others. They are also charged with policing the masses and making sure they don't revolt. These warriors are always four-armed, and have mighty horns which give them a (to other Herscia) majestic look. Herscian gladitorial battles are show and combat, used to have prisoners fight one another, to solve disputes, and for professional gladiators. They will keep slaves of other races and cultivate them, killing the strong and observing how the weaker members fight. If they allow the strong to fight, the match will be rigged. This is done both to show Herscian superirority but also to gather information on other races' fighting styles. Even mightier than the warriors, however, are the advisors. These advisors are the promising, educated children of the monarch and previous monarchs. They advise the monarch and ensure that children are properly sorted into castes. They also represent the pool of those who can succeed the monarch after they die.
Once a new monarch is selected, they are given a royal jelly to ensure they grow differently. This jelly cannot be easily obtained, as it is within the current king or queen of the Herscia. This royal jelly, when eaten changes the horns of the beetle, and they become both stronger and larger. If a hornless Herscia obtains this jelly, their horn will regrow. Besides the single royal Herscia, every single herscia in a tribe lays their eggs in a centralized cave, where they are then sorted into castes shortly after or upon hatching. Each instance of Royal Herscia has their own cave, where children of the monarch are hatched. These are then evaluated to see if they are worthy of becoming an advisor, or siply shipped to the lower castes if they are undesireable.
Due to the Herscian love of fighting, they sek to encourage others to fight, and view military action as an important part of their culture. Much of inter-clan diplomacy is done to encourage wars between other races on the continent in order to profit off their weapons industry. They will often raid both sides of those engaged in warfare in order to secure captives for their arenas and slave pens, as well as fighting one another for land, prestige, and resources. It's rare for a Herscian nation to ever be at peace. This violence and encouragement of violence is such an integral part of their culture that, due to the widespread presence of the Herscia on Namarin, it has become a central facet of Namarin life in general, with only those lucky races sequestered behind mountains safe from their warmongering.
