Grenhóllr

The Grenhóllr are a people group living exclusively in Northern Telgren. They mainly inhabit the similarly named island of Grenholl, but are also native to the island of Havvaf as well as a number of other islands of Northern Telgren. They are notably absent as a native population in the Þaru Isles and the Frostreach Archipelago. However, they may be found there due to centuries of interaction with the Voðeren, as traders or as slaves and serfs. A historically tribal people, the Grenhóllr are mostly organized into clans, and are thus disorganized. This has influenced the dominant religion of Grenoll Druidism, which varies wildly amongst the faithful, but it has not stopped the Grenhóllr from advanced in the arts, technology, and magic over the years.
The Albreannach are a clan-based subset of Grenhóllr who populate the majority of western Grenholl. Due to their wide zone of habitation and varied biomes, they are the largest group in terms of population by far. However, their lack of unity has caused great trouble for them in the past, as various clans focus on internal disputes rather than defense against outside invaders. The Ceohlig raids of the 1200s casued great strife for the Albreannach due to their lack of unity, and forever lost them most of the island of Havvaf. The Albreannach have also been invaded and shattered twice by Frostreach Empire, setting them back significantly each time. Their settlements on the outer coast of Grenholl have also been depopulated during the Golden Age of Raiding by Voðeren, while those on the inner coast have been depopulated by Ceohlig raiders in much the same fashion, though not to the same extent. Still, their wide area of settlement has allowed a number of advances, and their production of game, timber, grains, and livestock outsreatches any other Grenhóllr group.
The Ceohlig are a warlike subset of Grenhóllr who are mostly present in the north-central portion of Grenholl as well as much of the island of Havvaf. Living at a wide range of elevations and in a wide range of biomes, they are an adaptable people who have a number of small industries. Farming, herding, hunting, and fishing are all practiced in varying amounts by the Ceohlig, and they have small-scale apiaries which produce honey. However, the Ceohlig are better known for their raids than their industries, as they have long been the bane of the Dyghwek and Albreannach in particular. The Ceohlig are also invested in development of new technologies and weaponry, often in conjunction with the Swamp Elves, which has given them an advantage in military conflicts. During the Golden Age of Raiding, the Ceohlig were the second most common group of sea-based raiding after the Voðeren, but this practice has declined due to the intervention of the restored Frostreach. The Ceohlig lands are also centers of learning and magic, in addition to their adaptability, so it seems unlikely this will hold them back forever.
The Cendlith are the Grenhóllr with the lowest population, despite their large land area. This is because the entire range of their settlement is covered in dense forests or hills and highlands. Their limited agricultural production means that most Cendlith are unable to develop true sedantary societies, though they are adept at foraging and hunting. Beyond this, they are mainly engaged in herding in the highlands or timber production in the forests. Despite their low population, the Cendlith are well known as the producers of much of Grenholl's luxury products, such as high-quality furs, fine wool products, resins, herbs, and truffles. In exchange for these goods, they recieve staples such as bread, honey, and cheese, allowing them to expand their population.
The Dyghwek are a people living in the south-central parts of Grenholl and are often considered more centralized than the other Grenhóllr. Their lands are generally lowlands, interspersed with hills that fade up to mountains in their west. Thus, much of the Dyghwek lands are suitable for both agriculture and livestock. However, their lands are generally poor for hunting purposes, and they lack many luxuries, necessitating external trade. The Dyghwek are not advanced sailors, as their coastline is oft-raided by Voðeren, so they depend on overland trade. However, due to conflicts with the Ceohlig, trade routes can be risky and are interrupted by war occasionally.
