Deep Waifs

Deep waifs are the rarest, and arguably the most disturbing looking, type of waif. Though they are not as small as the night waifs and do not possess their long fangs, deep waifs look like alien creatures. Their eyes are 50% larger than other waifs, who already possess gigantic eyes, and their ears are far larger than their heads. Deep waifs have very long whiskers that almost drag on the ground when they move because of their small stature. They live underground in caverns of dimly glowing lichen and other plants, which they cultivate. They fish for eyeless fish in the group rivers and lakes of the underground, and decorate their homes with crystals and gems. Deep waifs have a fundamentally peaceful culture, though they have a dislike of outsiders and generally prefer to live solitary lives. Still, deep waif cities do exist, and they rival those of the dwarves in beauty, if not in size and scale. Deep waifs are not opposed to trade with outsiders, though they always do so inside or during the night, since daylight is harmful to them. Because of the dim light inside caves, deep waifs prize certain colors and not others, which leads them to interesting fashion decisions. When deep waifs live outside of their cave homes, they are often treated poorly by outsiders; for this reason they rarely do so. Still, if one can get past their alien exterior, they’re by far the most reasonable and kind of all waifs.
