Chlotheg
The Chlotheg are a halfling culture who primarily live along the southern coast of Ærellion. As a people group who for the most part keep to their own small communities, they have over time adopted various religious practices from their neighbors and maintain a solid relationship with other races, particularly with the Hill Anemoi.
Migration of halflings to Ærellion began as early as the first century SC; with their kingdoms alreay beginning to see strain from cyclops invasions emigration pressures were high- although during this period most halflings preferred to go to Telgren. However, after the fall of the Empire of Oleandron most of the support for Telgrenese migration began to fade, and Halflings increasingly chose Ærellion. Immigration to Ærellion really kicked off during the period of 800-1200 SC as their growing population had nowhere to go. Gnomes were happy to take on many halflings as indentured servants and eventually settle them where they pleased as their contracts ended. Though never as populated as the temperate ports of Hymar, the southern lands recieved some immigration of halflings.
Over time, these halflings grew tired of the racially oppressive and often anachronistic policies of the Karadatra Empire and began to migrate westwards into the wildlands of Sevel Del'tyrd. Hilly and lighly settled aside from the dark elven delta states, it was the perfect place for them to settle. Although occasionally raided by the nomads of Ōkusab'na, the hills did have some protection in the form of the Anemoi Wind Stewardships. The Chlotheg were also able to erect palisades and other defenses, alongside simply hiding their settlements from marauding Orcs. Therefore, they were able to retain their autonomy as they never had to fully rely on the Anemoi. For their part, the Anemoi were happy to have more taxpaying citizen who would rarely, if ever, revolt and cause issues- they had more than enough of those with the Goblins.
Alas, this system was never meant to last. In recent years the Wind Stewardships have weakened and failed to project power, leading to the rise of goblin hordes who have menaced and conquered many of the Chlotheg settlements. As refugees flood into their remaining strongholds, they prepare to take a stand. Perhaps now is time for the Chlotheg to show they have what it takes to defend themselves. To build their own halfling-led nations upon the ruins of many other races who have tried to tame the wilderness of Sevel Del'tyrd.
