Boreal Trolls
Boreal trolls are the least developed trollish subrace. Considered brutish and stupid even by other trolls, they have made almost no progress towards civilization. Living in raider bands, they only come together in large groups when attacking settlements. Their migratory bands rove across many of Telgren and northern Ærellion's mountain passes, falling into conflict with one another as they meet. They can also be found in isolated forests, as they once spread far and wide across the nothern woods before being exterminated over the past few thousand years. However, there are also many solitary trolls wandering about, exiles and the like, who often become even more desperate and aggressive without a clan. It is these trolls who most often must be slain by adventurers on Telgren, or who become slaves to the centaurs on Ærellion. Trolls were also kept as slaves by the giants of Khŭlmozhi at some point in the past, but eventually become too much of a handful and were slaughtered, their survivors fleeting to the nearby forests where they were eventually driven to near extinction by humans.
Unlike the other trolls, who have a healthy fear of fire but still use it for lighting and occasionally for cooking, mountain trolls abhor fire, instead relying on darkvision to see at night. They consider attackers with fire as mighty beings and react with fear. However, this fear can quickly turn to even more brutal attacks as the trolls overcome their shock. They will nearly always try to keep those with fire for last, terrified of death as they are.
