Despite the cataclysmic shifts in world powers wrought by the destruction of the Republic, Veren Arhn continues to thrive as it has since it was first founded in the deep past. Life has indeed changed within the Eldest City, there's no denying that, but the industrial might of the city continues unabated, especially now that a major manufacturing vacuum has been left by the shattered Republic. That factories that have had a longstanding presence in Veren Arhn have nearly quadrupled both their quantity and output, forcing an expansion of the long-static walls of the city into a new sector called the Iron District. Rivalling the once unmatched industrial might of Isaldoria, the Iron District churns out wave after wave of automobiles, airplanes, tanks, firearms, explosives, household objects, indeed almost anything one can imagine. This has, in turn, led to an epidemic of diseases that follow the factory lines, such as asbestos poisoning or the dreaded smelter flu.
The population of Veren Arhn has, surprisingly, not risen so sharply as other countries following the Republic refugee exodus, for a variety of reasons. Security in a walled city is much easier to maintain than along hundreds of miles of border, and strict regulation on residence admission to the city has stemmed the deluge of immigrants. That's not to say many haven't made their way in, but most have either done so legally or have taken up residence in the Old City where they won't be so easily tracked. Regardless, the aristocracy have put this influx of labor to good use, expanding the city's manufacturing capabilities and making an already wealthy city-state even wealthier.
