Toryhs has forever been a dour place, even before the Krising invasion. Its position on the edge of the untamed wilds to the southeast has forced a level of paranoia into the people, having to spend their lives watching over one shoulder for what could be stalking them in the dark recesses of the mountains. It has often been spoken of Toryhs that the country is home to many monsters, something which many attribute to why the Krisings never attempted to invade the country despite it being largely cut off from the rest of the continent. Such reluctance could just as easily be because of the work of Armad van Drakalhd IX, tyrant of Toryhs, and the miles of orc bodies he hangs in chains along the country's border. Also known as the Butcher of Valtegraad due to his role in the systematic slaughter of orcs within said border town, Van Drakahld hails from a long line of nobility that has fought the orcs since even before they organized into the Krising State. Many believe his reputation alone kept the Krisings from invading.   That's not to say life has grown any better in the country. Van Drakahld is a tyrant after all, same as his forebearers, and his subjects are well aware of the cruelty he can inflict upon them. Thus, the population of Toryhs toils as they have for centuries, mining coal and iron from the border mountains and cutting lumber on the edges of the wild when they dare venture within. The mountainous geography of the country makes for little areable land, meaning the average Toryhsian has even less access to steady food supplies now that trade withg the Republic is no longer an option. Expansion into the wilds of the south is likewise a dangerous affair due to the remote nature of the borderlands, but faced with the threat of starvation, the peasants have little choice but to turn the wildlands into farms. Life expectency is even lower than usual for Torhys, with contemporary estimates topping out at 48 years old.
