The Dusk - A World of Fear
For the great continent of Soln, darkness and the things that hide within are nothing new. For thousands of years, inhabitants have combated the warped creatures that stalk the woodlands and valleys, they hunted the dwellers of the deep that lurked in caves and crevasses. They did not understand the beings of the wild, but they knew that those monstrosities must be eradicated. Perhaps this arrangement maintained something of a semblance to sanity all this time. As a new world began to dawn, however, and the paradigm began to shift, mortal-kind began to forget about the creatures that once terrorized their past. They placed their faith in knowledge and the mundane, and in doing so, they saved themselves from the horrors of the old world and the practices therein. However, as if heralded by screaming machinery and the acrid stench of gunpowder, a new breed of demon has infested the heart of the world. A terror born from the fears and failures of the soul, and the damnable ambitions that infest mortality. A terror spoken of as the Dusk.
Now, creatures born out of the intrinsic fears of the world stalk the city streets. Fantastic creatures are not the only monsters in the world, however, the depravity of the soul drives many to dark convictions and actions, from the simple act of murder to wild debaucheries and transgressions of even more heinous natures. The ever present specter of disease hangs over the world as well, with plagues regularly sweeping through small hamlets and great cities alike. Plague claims the life of many, and those who aren't taken by disease are often scarred for life, shunned by their peers and subjected to life in the lowest of slums. Pestilence is especially prevalent on the front lines of the Iron Conflict, a war between the orc Tsarate of the Krising State and the collective nations that oppose them. Within that maze of trenches and tunnels, death reigns on an unimaginable scale as new and deadly weapons arrive on the lines every day. The horrors of war weigh so heavily there that stories of walking deadmen and spirits of the damned are passed on from soldier to soldier, and insanity runs deep within the ranks of those consigned to fight.
