As the continent continues to advance both technologically and socially, the island nation of Breme is viewed more and more as a relic of an earlier time. One of the last nations in the world to maintain a true monarchy, the Aulsif dynasty continues to rule over the Bremian Islands and act with impunity. To their credit the residing monarch, Queen Sophia Aulsif, has made moves to try and catch the nation up with the modern times, but these can hardly be considered acts of altruism. Just as its ideals are fading into obscurity, the entire relevancy of Breme is steadily lessening with each passing year and the aristocracy are determined to hold on to whatever power they can.
The major point of contention lies in the rapid success of Othireme, territory that was originally Bremian until a schism split the country. Despite the years between the secession of General Mars Otheir, the establishment of Othireme, and the modern day, the Aulsif dynasty still believes that Othireme is rightfully theirs and will loudly proclaim such assertations at every opportunity. This makes them no favors on the world stage, which combines with their rampant discrimination against non-humans (and most non-Bremians) makes them thouroughly unlikeable. Few chose to travel to the islands anymore, which seems to be how Breme wants things to be. Despite this fierce independence, the country is still united with Othireme at the hip whether the Aulsifs like it or not, making their claims of superiority that much more empty.
