There was a time when Apollena was largely insulated from the troubles of the world. Considered the originator of high culture in ancient Soln, the aristocracy enjoyed Apollenian wine while listening to sonnets composed by Coriopolis' greatest poets, usually delivered by an Apollenian orator. The country had not seen war on their soil for centuries, and even when the Krising war broke out they seemed content to trust in the mighty Republic to place themselves in front of the orc barbarians. The wine continued to flow, the money contineud to pour in, and the countrie continued to bas in the fruits of their labor.
Then the line broke, followed not long after by the Republic itself, and the Apollenian border towns soon found themselves facing down bands of raiders they had never expected to reach their doorstep. The country survived these initial skirmishes largely due to their geography, the mountains making it difficult for raiding parties to move except through established passes. Defensive lines drawn in these chokepoints managed to hold off the Krisings long enough that outside assistance could arrive in the form of hired mercenaries. These companies gave the country time to prepare a proper army, small as it may be, and in short order they managed to repel the the orcs to past their borders again. Nowadays, much of the Apollenian treasury is spent on purchasing weapons, equipment, and vehicles from other countries such as Wulfram and Isaldoria, making up for the small size of their army by keeping it armed with the best equipment possible. This sudden shift in financial priorities has led to discordant voices within the country's aristocracy, unhappy that their liesurely lives are taking a backseat to military spending.
