The katana is introduced to the empire.

The katana is introduced to the Empire, a sword superior to prior designs that combined the best of steel's different aspects.   Many lay claim to who discovered the techniques of its forging first, but it's undeniable that this weapon becomes the new symbol uniting the warriors of the Empire.   Mirumoto, the Dragon Emperor's personal guardian, having used two swords for most of his life, adopts the katana and the shorter sword, wakizashi, as his signature weapons.   Following the Imperial trend, carrying the katana and the wakizashi together becomes the symbol of a warrior, while those less inclined to fighting choose only to carry the wakizashi as a gesture that they too are part of the Empire.   Mirumoto however is a proud man, and the technique of Niten - using both the katana and the wakizashi together - is declared to be only for Mirumoto and those he are training to serve the Emperor directly.
