Session 5: Splendor of the Sewers Report

General Summary

1 Avrer 1000 AWD

Upon being thrust into a room with some not so friendly individuals, Elijah Silversun and Tiber Alighieri quickly defended themselves.  Blossom Nimblekip and Echo Aella made efforts to get to them to assist and were able to after some help from Tiber.   During the ensuing battle, Tiber seemed to lose all control after transforming and began to tear open the gnomes who had attacked him and the party.  Some quick thinking by Eli knocked out Tiber before he could turn his gaze on to his friends.   The party then studied the mural on the ceiling.  It still bears some of the flaking mural that once depicted four different geographic regions, converging on a gleaming silver orb in the center of the ceiling.  It was revealed that each region represents one part of the Greenwold – the mountains of the dwarves, the coasts of the humans, the woods of the elves, and the rivers of the halflings. The towering statue that once presided over the room crumbled long ago, only it’s shattered feet remain on the heavily graffitied pedestal.  On this various markings were found and Tiber recognized some of them as the symbol of the Lord Mayor's guild, a recluse and mysterious gang that is only heard about in whispers.   They began searching the area and found a store room where they located some runes.

Before they could decipher them, an individual made himself known behind them.  It was none other than the self fashioned "Lord Mayor" himself, Gilles Lavertine.  He told them they were to be baptized in order to find salvation, which they quickly refused, so his hand was forced in order to "cleanse this world of its corruption" in the name of "The Dweller of the Black Waters."   During this battle, they party was met with dark powers of a warlock and contested with a ooze like creature that brought pain to those near it.  Tiber once again lost control and as he lay on the ground dying, his friends were able to dispatch the "Lord Mayor" and his dark companion.  Through some quick thinking on the part of Eli and Blossom, they were able to save Tiber from certain death.   They searched the old chapel where it appeared the "Lord Mayor" was using as his sleeping quarters and discovered some interesting notes about the comings and goings of wealthy merchants and aristocrats across the city, combined with detailed accounts of guard patrols.  These were pocked by Echo for future use.   During this search they also made another discovery about the Duke of Grayhaven, Dain Draymoore.  The "Lord Mayor" had discovered that the Duke was not human, but some sort of 4 legged, cleft hooved creature who was not of the material plane!!!!   Echo returned to the store room to investigate the runes found earlier and comparing them to the map provided to them by Tykus Stormborn, she spoke the command word, "FALL" and the wall disintegrated, leaving a hallway and stairs in front of her.     After rousing Tiber, Echo cautiously began to investigate the stairway.  Hewn square to the corners, straight into the native bedrock beneath the city, this long corridor dead ends at a spiral staircase that descends straight down into darkness. The air is as still and silent as a tomb. When Echo sets foot upon the first step a silvery glow, faint as starlight, emanates from far down below.   The staircase descended down a hundred feet, with the silver light growing brighter the further as she goes down. The bottom stair exited into a simple stone chamber.  The walls are dark basalt, polished to a high shine. It at once felt tremendously ancient and never touched.   At the back of the room is an elegant stone pedestal. Upon it rests an orb about 5 inches in diameter that glows with pure, silvery light like a full moon. The light gleaming off the polished stone creates the sensation of standing in an otherworldly void.   Between the orb and the end of the staircase were four sets of larger-than-life stone statues of robed figures. They face each other, five feet apart, each clutching a black stone halberd as if prepared to defend the glowing orb.   The rest of the party descended and Eli estimated that the room must date back to the days of the Dragon Wars, over 1000 years prior.   In a deep, rumbling tone, the first set of statues intones together:
“We swore our lives to keeping the orb from evil hands. What oath do you swear that makes you worthy?”
