Golden Monks

The Golden Monks are warrior monks that hold considerable power for their small numbers.

Their prominence reached it's peak around 1000AG and has fallen since in all but the Monkey Clan. The warriors still protect land and intimidate rival schools of thought stemming from the ideals of the Golden Emperor. They have contributed heavily to the spread and development of different schools of thought throughout the realm.

They operate not as individuals, or members of small individual temples, but rather as warriors in a large extended brotherhood or monastic order. The home temple of the Golden Monks is the Monastery of the Golden Emperor atop Heaven's Mountain.

Structure

There are only two levels of ordination in the Golden Monks. The Novice monks. People may become a novice monk as the first stage to becoming a full-fledged monk, or they may become a novice monk for a short period with a specific intention of accuring religious merit. Certain clans have people become monks after the death of a loved one. Other may have children become a monk for a short period as a passage into adulthood such as the Monkey Clan.
Full-fledged monk follows after the novice stage. For those interested in a monastic vocation, final vows of lifelong ordination as a monk will follow the first two stages. This ceremony is performed at the Monastery of the Golden Emperor.

History

The Golden Monks were founded in 25 AG during the reign of the Golden Emperor. As the Emperor decided to forgo leaving behind any descendants they inherited his words and ideals to continue to support the realm.
