Author's Notes
The realm of the Lost Retreat started as a home on World Anvil for some of my oldest digital artwork and four tiny story fragments only loosely linked together which I had originally posted with those images on my Renderosity account. This included the two mentions of Yvessu's adventures in
Crossing Over and
the Underground Lake, with the second of these having the first ever mention of Carafon as an underground city. A very long time later, when I came to put together this site, I finally made a map to provide some more context for those pieces and Carafon started to develop into a more complete location to build on the few words in that original story fragment. Since then, I've fleshed out more of the surrounding world of the Lost Retreat, last year working on the
Silent Kingdoms and the
River Whisper. These locations are more closely associated with the other two original pieces,
the Enchanted Fountain and
the Way Through The Wetlands, which are a second, currently independent, thread that I aim to eventually link to Yvessu's story.
At the end of March 2023, the
Cavern City of Carafon finally become a fully realised city.
I'm going to use the meta-article you are reading now, as a home for anything specifically related to the story of Yvessu whilst she is in Carafon. This is still somewhat hazy in my head, but it is now beginning to sit inside this new more strongly imagined context and that has given me some more ideas for where to take her story, so there will be at least one new fragment added here soon...
