The First Rift War Military Conflict in The Discontinuum | World Anvil

The First Rift War

The First Rift War began when a portal to one of the more chaotic worlds in the Fever Dream was accidentally opened during magical experimentation at the High Seat of the King.
An eldridge race of fractured beings named the Glass Monsters, for some fancied resemblence between their dimensionally shattered forms and the play of light on broken glass, came through into the Fey Court and began a bitter existential struggle with the fey, a war that was fought with powerful magics, the wielding of chaos and the creation of many subtle traps where the laws of form from the Fey Court and the realm of the Glass Monsters came into conflict.
Magical wars are not unknown to the Stability Council, even within evolutions such as The Lost Retreat and Magicians' End but it is thought likely that the First Rift War is the most intense such struggle that has ever been waged in the local Discontinuum.
The most famous battle at the beginning of the war, is the fall of Läntinen Vartiotorni. The Glass Monsters utterly destroyed this important fortress for the fey, inflicting a near mortal blow on their enemies as they burnt all the keeps to the ground.

The High King Dovrim Lauram, was killed in this battle and many of the most noble fey warriors perished with him.
Finally, the First Rift War was brought to an end by the combined efforts of Batai Pollock and his partner Telynor Melysaf using powerful song magic to establish a fatal frequency that shattered the front line of the Glass Monsters before sealing the rift.
