Aerochelinaut
The Aerochelinaut is a species of flying fish that can be found on Magicians' End off the coast of south eastern Myruthea and in other areas of similarly warm coastal waters further south. They are more popularly known by the fishermen who sometimes catch them as "skyfinners".
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Aerochelinaut is a true flying fish, far removed from the limited abilities of the so called "flying fish" that can be found on Earth Zero which can do little more than jump and glide. Aerochelinaut's possess powerful wings and have the ability to breath in air and water, making them full amphibians and allowing them to fly for prolonged periods of time. They are, however, equally at home in the ocean and in fresh water where they use their powerful tail and retractable fins to move swiftly in an aqueous environment. Their skin consists of irridescent protective scales which give them a flashing white and silver appearance. Their eyes are a luminous aqua or green and their jaws are lined with sharp, needle teeth.
Genetics and Reproduction
Aerochelinaut's require fresh water to lay their eggs and to raise their young. Only when they are sexually mature after three years, will the older individuals fly to the sea where they mate and live the majority of their lives.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Skyfinners are ominiverous and can survive by grazing on algae or sea weed, but they will also hunt smaller fish (including their own siblings after spawning) and prefer to supplement their diet with meat. On the land, they have been known to kill and eat small birds that live in the reed beds where they breed and mature, but they are not big enough to pose a threat to larger species.
Behaviour
In this image we see a school of Aerochelinaut caught in the spells of fish charmers from the Harmonic Order at the harbour at Nephatar. The fish can be lured and lulled by music and this enables fishermen to catch and kill them, in the air as well as at sea.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
The Aerochelinaut likes warm water near a coastline and it is found predominently in the shallows off the south east coast of Myruthea, particularly around the island of Zurle and all along the coast between Tylisfort and Quandelle. A different subspecies is found along the northern coasts of Punjuki.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The most numerous species which is found near Nephatar has pearlescent white scales with pale blue aqua eyes as in the specimen shown at the head of the article. Further south, a second slightly smaller subspecies has green eyes and its scales have a marked yellowish cast to them.
