Innes Colohan
Innes Colohan
Inness was a terrible, terrible man. Was. After a novel and revolutionary medical operation, he's been mostly straightened out.
Of course, there are some (severe) side effects, but that comes with the territory. As of now, he's an upstanding individual who intends to make the most of his new lease on life by using his dark magic on adventures to pay back the people he wronged. And, well... it doesn't hurt that adventuring puts a lot of distance between him and his old victims.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
A towering presence, his spindly build seems to extend on forever. With long arms and a strange sort of flexability, he looks the perfect kind of unnatural for a morally degenerate wizard-cum-serial-killer. He was born for the job.
Body Features
Years of missed sunlight in his... "darker" days made his skin a pale, sickly sort of white, something he hopes to remedy on his adventures.
Facial Features
He has a long face, long hair and deep bags under his eyes. Said eyes are pure black, lacking any colour.
There's a slight nick beneath his right eye from the operation. Well, "from" the operation. The doctor's hand slipped afterward, the old fart.
Physical quirks
He occassionally suffers from spasctic twitches after the operation, a consequence of fiddling with the human mind with a metal pick. A small price to pay to avoid the gallows, though.
Special abilities
He can waggle his ears.
Apparel & Accessories
Innes dresses smartly, mostly as an attempt to counteract the poor first impression his appearance generally generates. A shirt and blazer is what he usually wears.
He hopes he'll be far enough away from the action as to not get them covered with blood, as it would somewhat detract from the effect of looking not-evil.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
For all of his life, Innes suffered from severe mental illness. And everyone around him suffered from it, too.
Afflicted with compulsions, hallucinations and voices in his head, it is of little surprise that Innes didn't turn out great. But even with that taken into account, he achieved the not unimpressive feat of ducking below the extremely low bar set for him.
From a young age, it was clear that Innes had some personality defects not linked to his mental issues. He'd rip the legs off bugs, kick dogs, and dissect mice. These petty acts entertained him for a time, but soon he grew tired of the limited ways animals would respond. Discovering he had a talent for magic, he soon realized he had a way of getting some more... "interesting" reactions.
Turning to the arcane, he took great pleasure in finding new and innovative ways to harm his fellow man. Men were violated infront of their families. Men were mutilated and tortured. And, ultimately, men were killed.
These provocative and morally degenerate acts brought the law down on Innes, in what was perhaps the easiest arrest to justify in the history of the state. The poor barrister assigned to the man went to bat for him, but when several of the soldiers who were assigned to arrest him were bearing witness, all in various states of "disrepair" after their altercation with his client, securing a not guilty verdict seemed... unlikely.
But he persevered, and managed to secure an alternative for Innes. He wouldn't hang... just so long as he'd consent to an experimental new treatment for insanity.
One metal pick forced through the back of the eyesocket later, Innes was a changed man. And when you're going from a twitchy, easily aggravated bastard whose first thought upon meeting someone was about forcefeeding them their fingernails, really any change is good. He was calmer and kinder, and the voices in his head had gone. Inside his head was quieter... though perhaps a little too quiet.
Blessed with the kind of knowledge of dark magic that can only be acquired through RIGOUROUS practice and some actual morals beginning to develop, he turned to adventuring. It suited his skills, it would help pay off the absolute tidal wave of legal fees from his "escapades", and there was NO way anyone was hiring him for a normal job with his record.
And maybe the exciting nature of the job would bring back a bit of fire to his mind, which has been unnaturally subdued since the operation.
Education
Innes took to studying magic with a manic fevor, breaking into libaries, kidnapping wizards and... "experimenting" on purchased slaves. Over a decade plus, this made him into quite the exceptional talent. Rather unfortunately for him now, though, there's less overlap than you'd expect between torture techniques and adventuring, especially when you want to maintain some vague sembelence of morals, so he's starting from near the bottom.
Employment
Innes never really had a formal job, but he made more than enough to fund his "exploits" in the criminal underworld. His services were in high demand, as specilizing in torture means you are a damn good interrogator.
Nowadays, he wonders how bad this job really was, given the distasteful nature of most of his victims.
Accomplishments & Achievements
He's a living monument to the wonders of modern medicine, and the lawyer who got him off advertises that achievement to anyone who'd listen.
Personally though, he lacks any achievements or accomplishments he can still stand behind.
Failures & Embarrassments
His only real "failure" was getting caught, but to put it mildly, he's really quite embarrassed about the whole evil wizard thing.
Mental Trauma
The dampening effect the operation bestows mightn't actually be the worst thing for Innes, because he's got a whole lot of very deeply ingrained memories that he used to take great pleasure in reliving.
A pity the pick didn't go a bit further in and cleave those out, because thinking back to them now gets even his immensely toned down emotions a little flared up.
Aside from that, he has the expected amount of squimishness about knowing his entire personality was shifted from a medical operation, and this isn't who he "really" is, so to speak.

A mad wizard who was "fixed" by a revolutionary new medical procedure.
