Detlet (a.k.a. The Dull)

Like most Vedalken, Detlet was obsessed with new and interesting technology and magic, but instead of using it to further enhance himself and his people, Detlet would rather go around showing it off to those around him. He set up his own travelling act showing off the various machinations and discoveries but most Vedalken saw him as a distraction, and not a particularly interesting one at that, as much of the stuff he tried to show off was a more archaic version of something that already existed in Vedalken society. He was then nicknamed Detlet the Dull by the Vedalken, which he tried to fight back against by wearing a pretty cool hat.
One day one of his acts went horribly wrong and he lost an arm because of it. He managed to replace it with something he had made weeks earlier, a prosthetic arm that did some extra stuff that his old arm didn't do, but in classic Detlet fashion, he forgot to add an elbow, and so the arm hinders his manoeuvrability.
Seeing this, the Vedalken decided that they had had enough and decided to banish Detlet until he proved he would be able to be a productive member of society.
Detlet was overjoyed when he found out about a new landmass full of secrets and mysteries that he could bring back and show off to his fellow Vedalken, mainly in the hopes of getting his house back as he had just finished paying off his mortgage, and the rest of his stuff that he wasn't allowed to bring with him when he got exiled would be nice too.
