Government

The Creche Argent and its internal mechanisms are controlled by the System. The System is not an AI, but a piece of very advanced software, programmed on Earth and occasionally updated. When a decision is required that can not be handled by the current programming, all citizen get to vote. Any citizen can also propose a specific change to the System software, and if a qualified majority agrees, the change is applied. There are very few hierarchies, no politicians, and very few that could count as law enforcement.

History

The Creche Argent was built in Earth orbit by the South-American Coalition for spreading humankind into space. It was not the first of its kind, other groups had already built similar ships. Such as the West-African Union, the Belters, and the Scions of Rome.
The ship sailed slowly at first accumulating speed and a when the first generation perished, it had barely left the solar system, but speed slowly grew towards the half-way-point. At that time, the sail was reversed and a slow deceleration began. That also marked the last of the sporadic communications with earth, since the sail now blocks any further attempts, until a sustainable settlement has been built in the target system.
Just after the half-way point, the First Contact happened. A small vessel with a handful of creatures approached and a delegation was sent. The creatures were apparantly sapient, but very little communication could happen before xenophobic votes were held in the System and a mob, armed with makeshift weapons killed the creatures that had transferred into quarantine on the Creche. They appeared near to death anyway and all aliens were quickly killed. Their ship was attached to the Creche to be studied at leisure. A few technologies have so far been extracted from there.
Unknown to humankind a genetic parasite was controlling the aliens and it managed to infect the original contact crew. It possessed their children and then slowly at first spread from there. Today a significant portion of the population are controlled. Enough to start the eradication of the human species, at first under the guise of more strict controls by the System.
For decades the Creche has been decelerating through the system, and less than ten years remain before arrival. Population has been booming for the last century and a strain is being put on the ships resources.
The chilean sector is one of five sectors: the argentine, the peruvian, the colombia-venezuelan, and the coalition. It was originally populated by people from Chile, over time this is no longer true, but some traditions are maintained by the so-called chileans.

Architecture

The central passages are surprisingly airy and broken up by plazas with pattern-tiled floors. Greenery is maintained everywhere. Growing up the walls of the passage, on window-sills and on many chamber walls.
The chilean sector is specially marked by the red inverted blossoms of the chilean bell-flower, hanging from all ledges along the passage. Also the floor of the passage are decorated with tiled outlines of fauna and architecture from Earth.
