Starspawn

The Sun is far, and it is broken. But, for you, Child of Light, it is near. Radiate ,oh Starspawn, for you are the last of divinity within man.

Effect

A Starspawn is someone born with a connection to the Sun. This allows them to conjure powerful magical effects at the cost of their body. It is similar to the Edict in the sense that it is one of the rawest forms of power found in the Cradle. Other types of magic have to take roundabout steps to reach their goals. Circumvent mental and mystical restrictions by, say, summoning a fireball to kill someone rather than just willing them to be dead. Starspawn do not run into this issue.

As far as limitations on output go; there are non. Instead the Starspawn are limited by their ability to prevent the solar energy within them from eating them alive.

Manifestation

Starspawns glow with radience. From the moment they are born they radiate the light of the sun. It twists their corporeal form. They are stuck in a place between magic and matter.

Their magic almost always manifests as beautiful. As radiating, as bright. It can be fiery and harmful but it is never ugly. Death by the sun is always a sterile consumption by divine light. Nothing to fear, not really.

The Starspawns power comes from within them, but, on a larger scale it comes from the Sun.

The Broken Sun is thought to be what is left of God. It still shines with a twisted fraction of its holiness. Every few years there will be a solar burst. The sun will crack and break and send pulsating waves of light through our atmosphere. Creatures born during this time may bask in this light and become a Starspawn. Eternally blessed by the Sun.

Applied Restriction

Sunlight is powerful but also destructive. A Starspawn's body is generally not able to withstand the incredible amount of power that it holds. Every time magic is conjured it sets the whole balance of the Starspawns physical form out of order - the essence of sun trapped within seeks to come out. Every Starspawn is being pulled to an early grave by a fire within them. It is only a matter of time before a spell goes awry and the body is incinerated.

On a more social level Starspawn are shunned. Due to years of misunderstanding and propaganda launched by Greywood they are hunted, killed and sold around like meat. A Sleeping Star is a coveted magical artifact which boils down to an unconscious Starspawn.
