Jade Lions

Constructed from magically infused jade, these Lions are said to be modeled after a kind of guardian spirit for temples and other places of great importance. More often, they are used as security devices or weapons of war.
They can vary in size depending on necessary use, but the Lions tend to be significantly larger than any man. Large enough to trundle through buildings and trees.
They also have an animal level of intelligence, which serves them well in their job of protection and hunting.
When not being brought onto active duty or a larger campaign the Lions will stand completely still, statuesque even, in guard of whatever their master requires. When in this state, the Lion will not move even an inch, and is indestinguishable from a regular statue until it comes into animation again.

The Lions are often carved with a sphere of the same material, which they handle with shocking alacrity for their size and lack of fingers.
This sphere is used as a sort of close-range projectile weapon, reliant on the prodigious bulk and strength of the unit.
