Harich (heərɪʧ)

The town of Harich is located in Bucham Province of the Emberleaf Republic. Much of the town is built atop a massive seaside cliff and its surrounding areas. The town is famous for the Cliffside Doors, a popular tourist attraction which consists of a massive set of metal doors placed around an intricate series of carvings along the cliff's seaward face. The doors are themselves immovable, but the sight is still quite a thing to behold.

Harich is primarily a port town with a specialisation for fishing. structures built on the elevated, cliff-like parts leading along Harich's coast facilitate ship travel, with the exception of the main cliff, which is far too large and steep to be built upon.

History

Formed in the 1880s, the town of Harich was originally built atop its main cliff, and contained mostly residences. The town made money in those days by processing the lumber in nearby woods. (This lumber, known to the people of Eldureia and its successor state, the Emberleaf Republic as flammefichten is detailed elsewhere) As technology improved, unique infrastructure was built to allow a fishing operation to begin, and Harich began its new life as a port town. The construction along the coast's minor cliffsides led to the discovery of the town's famous Doors, which unbeknownst to the public contain the ruins of an ancient city called Peldaramen.

Tourism

The town's primary tourist attraction may be the Doors (detailed elsewhere), but many also travel to this large (if quiet) town to witness the peculiar infrastructure that allows an important port to function alongside cliffs.

Geography

This town faces the sea, and terminates in both sheer cliffs and softer edges (for which the top is still above sea level. Much of the town is built upon the main cliff, though most of the town's important industry is focused around the relatively low-lying areas where docks could be created with some minor ingenuity.
