The Ruins of Peldaramen (Pell-dara-mehn)

The most notable feature in the otherwise quiet seaside cliff town of Harich is the massive, elaborately carved gateway built into the cliff's face. The doors, which are made of solid metal, are not able to be moved without caving in the entire cliff. These doors serve as a tourist attraction that calls the occasional visitor to Harich, but otherwise, the public knows little of what lies behind them.    Andervane University had sponsored several expeditions which utilised advanced technology, careful planning, and a little bit of magic in order to excavate a small, nondescript entrance to the structure within the cliff. They've discovered that the town of Harich is built upon the ruins of a subterranean city that were referred to in some ancient texts as Peldaramen. The city itself is in a state of ruin, having been abandoned for at least four thousand years. The entirety of the ruin has yet to be mapped, and it is unknown how far beneath the earth it extends. There have not been any recovered details concerning the city's inhabitants, culture, purpose, or destruction.    An adventurer may find themselves contracted by the university or another interested party to help discover Peldaramen's secrets, and brave its possible dangers.

Geography

The main entrance to the city is a massive set of doors built into the side of the cliff. It is speculated that these doors were opened to offer boat access into the city, but closed via magic during times of inclement weather or conflict. The city itself is built inside the cliff itself and extends significantly underground. Researchers have no idea how Peldaramen's inhabitants managed to construct such an elaborate underground settlement that extends far below sea level on a coastline.

Localized Phenomena

The earliest expeditions into the city's ruins suggest that it may extend for miles beneath the earth. The discovered "side entrance" appears to have been used as an emergency tunnel of some kind, and opens into a deeper part of the city that is very far from where the doors would open. Reports of strange noises and eerie lights emanating from the ruin's depths are often documented by researchers.
