The Continent of Eottomel

Year 50 E5

Created by

In the southeast lies the Dwarven Monarchy, an example of trade and civilization for the rest of the continent to follow. The monarchy covers many islands, which has forced the Dwarves to become the best sailors in the world. However, there, the black markets thrive in almost every city, and corporations gouge the prices of goods that come from the mines that produce the majority of the ore for the entire Continent. The government keeps these corporations in check, but they can only do so much with corrupt Lords and Regents.   In the far east lies the Elven Gerontocracy, a loose collection of Elven families that live inside the impenetrable Elven Jungle. It is the most beautiful and lush part of the Continent, but also the most deadly. Very few outsiders have ever been allowed into the jungle, and everyone who has entered uninvited has never come out again. The elves prize themselves on their intelligence and poise, but their ferocity undermines their civility.   In the center of the Continent lie the Plains and Forest of the Notaku, the peaceful tribes of humans. Driven from their homeland centuries ago, the Notaku live off the land, constantly traveling, as the world reacts violently to their presence. The Tribesmen are some of the most peaceful societies on the Continent, preferring to trade rather than fight, unless the need arises.   To the West lie the Highlands and the Cowlands, where the Enlightened humans live. The Enlightened live in many different city-states, each with their own laws and values. While each city is unique, they all share one thing in common: each one believes they are the best, and they will kill each other to prove it. Many of the Enlightened look down on the other races, but many also look upon the others with academic curisosity, as new species bring new discoveries of the world.   To the southwest, the Orcish Desert stands as a reminder to all that the Continent is not forgiving to those who are ill-prepared. The Orcs who live there do so proudly, working the inhospitable land for everything it can provide. Due to the harsh living conditions, they can be very unforgiving to those of their own kind, as well as newcomers. However, to those who abide by their laws and codes of honor, they are an ally stronger than no other on the Continent.   Lastly, to the northwest, the island of Tamoril stands as a reminder of the sins of the past. The so called "Lesser Races" - consisting of the halflings, dragonborn, gnomes, and tieflings - live in the inhospitable wasteland they were imprisoned in centuries ago. While there is no law stating that those who were born there cannot come back to the Continent, there is still a stigma to those who hail from there.
